decem annos bellum gerebant.
For ten years they were waging war.
For the time during which something happens, Latin uses the ablative case.
media nocte de equo descenderunt.
In the middle of the night they climbed down from the horse.
For the time when something happens, Latin also uses the ablative case.
prima luce cives necaverunt.
At first light they killed the citizens.
