  • The 3rd Declension contains nouns of every gender.

  • Masculine and feminine nouns follow the pattern of rex (king).

  • Neuter nouns decline in the same way as masculine and feminine nouns, just with the two neuter rules applied (i.e. nom. = acc.; nom. & acc. pl. end in –a.).

  • The stem of a 3rd Declension noun is often not clear from the nominative singular – use the genitive singular (removing the -is ending) to show the stem.

  • The genitive plural ends in –ium for some nouns.

  • mare (sea) has the ablative singular mari.
