GCSE Latin: Indicative Passive Pluperfect

Pluperfect Tense (Passive)

Like the pluperfect active, the pluperfect passive is translated into English using the auxillary verb had:

portatus eram I had been carried

The pluperfect passive of a verb is formed by placing its past passive participle (“PPP”) before an imperfect form of the verb sum (I am).

The participle will change its ending according to gender and number, e.g.

aqua antea portata erat.
The water had been carried before.
pueri in via visi erant.
The boys had been seen in the street.
